The Course : |
| |
|
| |
Each course will comprise a 2-night stay at with 2 full days of photographic tuition, excursions along the coast, tutorials and demonstrations. The size of each course will consist of a maximum of 10 photographic guests guided by myself and my highly experienced associate Jon Gooding. The courses are aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography. With a program of individual guidance, hands on demonstrations in the field whilst waiting for the light, picture shows and specialised tutorials on the regular photographic forays all levels will be catered for. The central theme of the instruction of how we use our eyes to develop a photographic vision is backed up with sound practical advice on how to be in the right place at the right time, and how to make the most of it photographically once there.
With our two four-wheel drive vehicles we will transport you to locations with strong photographic potential when the light is best, at dawn and dusk. The days will be full, starting with a dawn photographic shoot and ending with a dinner back at the hotel. Additionally we’ll ask you to bring examples of your own work for all the group to discuss and enjoy and to enable myself and Jon to advise on how best you can continue to develop your photography. Should the weather be unfavourable we’ll have the facility to demonstrate post-production techniques and show images from all over the world. Of course all activities are optional. If you fancy a lie-in, that’s fine. |

The Region : |

|
|
| |
The Jurassic Coast of Dorset stands alongside such world gems as the Grand Canyon and Great Barrier Reef with its UNESCO World Heritage Site status. In my opinion some of the most dramatic land and seascapes in the British Isles are to be found here. High chalk cliffs, dramatic coastal features such as Durdle Door, sweeping beaches and sheltered coves are all on our photographic menu. This is our patch; Jon and I know this area like the back of our hands. But enough of my waffle, here are some pictures. |

We’ll be staying at the Springfield Country Hotel (www.springfield-country-hotel.co.uk), which is superbly situated near Wareham. Enticing photographic locations are right on our doorstep. The Hotel has all the facilities we need for photographic demonstrations and tutorials, plus a fully equipped leisure centre with an indoor pool, gym and spa bath. |
|
With the excellent leisure facilities at the Springfield and the superb scenery on hand we positively welcome non-photographic partners to join us for the weekend. Partners are free to join us on our photographic shoots and during the early evening picture shows. We all dine together and it is a great area for contemplative walks. |

- Equipment: Bring whatever gear you use. We only stipulate that you should be familiar with your own equipment. Whether it’s film or digital is up to you, our tuition will be relevant to both mediums and all formats. The only requirement is that you bring a tripod.
- Language: All tuition will be in English.
- Fitness: Although we will be using our 4x4 vehicles to access remote locations a reasonable level of fitness is required. Typically we may need to walk for 20 minutes over hilly terrain with our equipment to reach some locations. Additionally a photographic walk of about 3 km over undulating terrain is part of the itinerary for the first day.
- Arrival Time: We kick off by all meeting each other at the Hotel on the Friday afternoon (November 12th) at 1400. After introductions and a brief chat we’ll then be going out on location for an afternoon shoot. Days are short this time of year so we’ll be back in good time for an evening tutorial and dinner.
- Departure Time: We finish the course at midday on the Sunday March 7th.
- Payment: We take all major credit cards. A deposit of £200 (£100 for a non-photographic partner) will be required to secure your booking, with the balance due 2 months prior to the commencement of the course.

Giotto’s MTL8261B Carbon Fibre Tripod:
Manufactured from 6-layer high density carbon fibre tube, the MTL8261B tripod offers superb stability and great portability.
The tripod will support up to 8kg, yet weighs only 1.6kg. It features quick and easy to use lever leg locks for tripod height adjustment, variable leg angle settings for low level shots and foam grips for comfortable tripod handling.
With an operating height from 47cm up to 165cm, this versatile tripod is perfect for photographers looking for a lightweight support who don’t want to sacrifice stability.
Giotto’s MH5001 3-Way head:
This robust head is manufactured from die cast aluminium and is ideal for precise camera positioning.
Each axis of movement is controlled by its own locking handle, ensuring that you can position your camera wherever you need it - no more sloping horizons or leaning trees.
The lockable quick release plate system allows quick camera attachment and removal whilst out in the field.
With a maximum weight capacity of 6kg, the MH5001 is suitable for a wide range of cameras, whether the latest DSLR model or more traditional medium and large format cameras.
