David Noton Photo-Explorer Adventure: Exmoor 2016
Saturday 29th October - Tuesday 1st November 2016
Join us for a long weekend of photographic indulgence on the first of our new Photo-Explorer Adventures on Exmoor this autumn. The course will comprise a 3-night stay at Edgcott House at Exford, with 3 full days of chasing the light, shoots and scouting as we delve into the full photographic potential of the National Park.
The size of each course will consist of a maximum of 5 photographic guests guided by David Noton. The framework of this course mirrors how David works when on his own photography trips. Dawn and dusk patrols, photo-shoots and location searching will fill the day, interspersed with the inevitable banter and informal interaction. Our guests will receive guidance and tutoring from David in a small group in-the field environment. These Photo Explorer Adventures are orientated to the needs of guests confident in their basic skills and techniques who would like to experience an adventure and indulge their photographic passion whilst chasing the light.
With our four-wheel drive vehicle we will transport you to locations with strong photographic potential when the light is best; at dawn and dusk. The days will be full, starting with a dawn photographic shoot and ending with dinner back at the hotel. Additionally we’ll ask you to bring examples of your own work for the group to discuss and enjoy and to enable us to advise on how best you can continue to develop your photography. Should the weather be unfavourable we’ll have the facility to demonstrate post-production techniques and show images from all over the world.
The cliffs and hills of Exmoor and the North Devon/Somerset coast in autumn are a blaze of colour. Autumn comes late to Exmoor and early November should be prime time for low slanting light on the russet tinged landscape. We’ll be visiting the Valley of the Rocks, the Hangman, Dunkery Beacon, the Ex valley, Porlock Hill and many other evocative spots in Exmoor National Park. The photographic potential is huge, from the open moorland to lush wooded valleys, the plunging cliffs and sweeping coast.
We’ll be staying at the family run Edgcott House in the charming village of Exford at the heart of Exmoor. In the comfortable and welcoming atmosphere of this quaint yet luxurious B&B we will all congregate after our full days to wine and dine. We’ll grab pub lunches as we go, keeping our options flexible to make the most of the light.
We positively encourage partners to come along. Whilst we can’t include non-photographic partners in the photographic excursions due to the fact we don’t have room in the vehicle they are welcome to join us at Edgcott House to enjoy an uplifting weekend on Exmoor. Wendy Noton will be on hand to accompany or assist partners in getting the very best out of the region. We will all dine together and it is a great area for contemplative walks, cycles, horse riding or simply relaxing.
